First, let me make one thing perfectly clear - I'm not really a guru. I don't even pretend to be a guru. The original title was "Accidental Success" but, you must admit that "Accidental Guru" is a much better choice.I've been on line since 1996. In the beginning, I was using the Internet to expand my offline business. Then I retired. I began to look for that one, super affiliate program that would make me a wealthy man in my retirement years. I tried a ton of different programs, and never was able to find that one big hit.
I've learned that anyone can make money with affiliate programs if they serioiusly try, and don't expect to get rich with just one program. Yes - anybody . . . even me . . . accidently.
I stumble on this "secret" method of making money with affiliate programs while searching for that ONE program that would make me rich. I'm not wealthy and probably never will be . . . but I am self-employed and earn my full time living on the Internet, with affiliate programs.
So what is this secret that's not a secret? Don't put all of your eggs in one basket. That "one program" you're searching for may not exists. It didn't for me, at least I haven't found it yet.
In the beginning (I like that term), I simply put up links and banners to affiliate programs. And I made a few commissions on sales. Then I discovered I could make more sales and earn more commissions by designing a web page to lead into my affiliate program. (These were later called gateway or doorway pages - another accidental discovery.)
Then I promoted the heck out of that special page. And my commission went up and up and up . . . until they reach a plateau. Then they leveled off and I couldn't seem to increase them no matter what I did.
Sooooo, I quit promoting that program and moved on to the next BIG program that would make me rich.
And I did it all over again.
I designed a special "intro" page for the next great program and promoted it. And it grew to a plateau and leveled off.
And I did it all over again.
On the third program I noticed that my first two program were still making money for me. With no further advertising, no effort and no work - I would get a regular commission check each month. It seems like I had discovered "multiple income streams" and in the process . . . learned how to earn an income on the Internet.
